Elon University offensive lineman Ikenna Nwokeji just became the 12th Phoenix to sign a contract to the NFL when he signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, April 28.
The 6-foot-6-inch, 284 pound offensive lineman came to Elon as a defensive lineman, before shifting his role to the other side of the ball. Nwokeji started all 45 games for Elon during his tenure in the Maroon and Gold, while also earning a number of accolades.
In 2014, his first year of college play, he was named the team’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in his first year playing the position. In 2015 the Randolph, Massachusetts native was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player. Following in the heels of those awards, Nwokeji was named a team captain in 2016. Then, to round out his time at Elon, he was named a Third-team All-CAA selection.
Nwokeji will join his fellow rookie signees at mini-camp, when he reports on May 11.
