The Orientation Schedule for Aug. 26-27 has been revised because of the threat of storms from Hurricane Irene.

New Student Convocation will be held Under the Oaks, the scheduled location, Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. The "Being an Elon Parent" sessions Friday at  6:15 and 7:30 p.m. have been cancelled. On Saturday, the continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and and Parent Gathering at 10:00 a.m. have also been cancelled.

Schedules for Sunday and Monday are expected to remain the same.

Other changes to the Friday and Saturday schedules include:

  • The Open House for Elon Legacy families is scheduled for Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
  • The Multicultural Family Receptions will now be held Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • The Brother/Sister Orientation will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Dinner will be held Friday from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
  • The transfer students' academic advising session will be held Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.
  • A floor and hall meeting has been added on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.
According to a press release from the office of governor Bev Perdue, North Carolina emergency management officials are making preparations for the landfall of Hurricane Irene predicted to hit the coast of the state later this week.

"This could be a large storm, so we are taking it very seriously," Gov. Perdue said in the press release. "Everyone in central and eastern North Carolina needs to keep a close eye on the weather forecast and listen to instructions from local emergency management officials."
