Daniel Phillips, a gardener at Elon University, was driving a Cushman westbound on West Haggard Avenue when junior Samantha Davis, driving northbound on Manning Avenue, pulled out in front of him around 1 p.m. Friday, according to Thom Deleuw, master police officer for the Town of Elon. Phillips struck the back of Davis' vehicle, causing the Cushman to overturn. Phillips sustained a laceration under the eye, Deleuw said, and was taken to Cone Health in Greensboro.
Davis was not injured and will be charged for failing to yield right of way.
