The senior staff at Elon University has selected writing as the topic for the Quality Enhacement Plan after the QEP selection committee submitted a report to President Leo Lambert Oct. 18.

The committee first began soliciting ideas for the plan, an initiative required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to enhance learning on campus, last semester. From there, specific proposals were written by professors for the top six ideas and feedback was gathered from students, faculty and staff.

The report filed with Lambert included the top three proposals, as gauged by the committee. Paula Patch, lecturer in English, and Paula Rosinski, associate professor of English, wrote the proposal on writing.

According to an email from Provost Steven House, Peter Felten, assistant provost and director of the center for the advancement of teaching and learning, will assemble a committee developing a plan to specifically address students' writing. This committee will be responsible for writing the final QEP proposal, to be submitted to SACS in November 2012 and evaluated when the SACS team visits campus in the spring of 2013.

"We want to express our appreciation not only to the coordinators of this process and the authors of these papers, but also to the entire campus community," House said in the email. "SACS intended the QEP process to allow an institution to identify its greatest needs and to plan to meet them in meaningful ways. We believe the SACS intent was met at Elon in this selection process, and we applaud the involvement of everyone who suggested and discussed these many ideas."
