This week, I did a story about Team Hero. Team Hero is an organization that helps serve military veterans as well as active duty soldiers by providing support and working to fund a guide dog for returning soldiers with PTSD through another organization called Paws and Stripes.
The (potential) organization is pretty interesting on its own, but equally interesting is something I didn’t really realize before doing this story: how difficult it is to become an organization on Elon’s campus. If you’re not an organization, it’s so much more difficult to recruit members, reserve spaces and do many of the things that most organizations and their leaders take for granted. I just want to take a moment to recognize how impressive it is that people are willing to take the time to invest in new organizations like Clara Martin has with Team Hero. I don’t know whether the campus really recognizes how much effort and time it takes and how difficult it is to operate as an organization that hasn’t been officially recognized by the university.
Although veterans are obviously heroes, it’s sometimes nice to recognize the little heroes in our daily lives, the dedicated people who do the behind-the-scenes work in organizations on this campus. I know people for years ahead of Clara and other founders of organizations will be forever grateful that someone was willing to do the initial work to allow them to continue operating as an organization.
