The SGA voted on offering numerous students and campus organizations financial support at this week’s meeting.
Four allocations were presented, which are student requests for financial donation from SGA to support academic research. Students who apply for allocations reach out to SGA and establish a list of who is involved, how the SGA can help and the fees needed.
“We are here to disperse finance for student values,” said Jana Lynn Patterson, advisor to SGA.
All four allocations presented at the meeting were passed unanimously.
Elon’s Global Medical Brigade was awarded $1,500 for a medical trip to Honduras. The group needed the funding for both medical supplies and health professionals. Kathleen Price, an Honors Fellow, was granted $480 to help fund her trip to Hawaii to present her research on migration and immigration patterns in Turkey and North Africa. The Finance Management Association was awarded $500 to send representatives to a business conference in New York City and Better Together was given $1,000 to fund attendance to an interfaith conference in Washington, D.C.
The Fun Fund was also brought up, which is designed to fund more students’ activities and is accessible to anyone.
As a final note in the meeting, the board informed the members to invite non-SGA members to sit in on the homecoming committee to see what is put into the planning and developments of the yearly events. The SGA is hoping to reach out to more students and organizations on campus.
