Elon men's basketball sophomore guard Lucas Weavil will be transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill following the school year, according to head coach Matt Matheny.
"He’s going to North Carolina," Matheny said. "It’s a dream of his. He loves Elon, he loves our team, but he’s always dreamed of going to North Carolina, so he’s going."
Weavil joined the team last year as a walk-on and appeared in three games. In the 2011-2012 season, he played in three games for a total of six minutes, scoring his lone three points in a 109-67 victory over Lynchburg College Dec. 11.
UPDATE: Another player on the men's basketball team said Weavil will attempt to walk onto the Tar Heels.
