The past three years, The Pendulum has produced a comprehensive look at the five fall sports teams: football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and cross country. Our avenue: the Fall Sports Preview. In the past, we've inserted it in the first Wednesday edition of the new school year.
They've looked stunning and the content is rich. Check out last year's HERE at the end of the edition.
This year, we're doing things a little differently. Because we're not running a paper every Wednesday, the Sports Preview gets its own week on newsstands. And boy, am I excited. Yes, that sounds very elementary school of me to put it that way, but I'm like a kid in a candy store. I have loved putting this thing together, through writing the stories, imagining the design and looking through photos to use.
So what can you expect? You can expect nothing but the best coverage of Elon University sports. We have season previews for each of the five sports, profiles on athletes and features on aspects of each sport ranging from a high-profile opponent to a look at how to be the best at a certain sport. The writing is top-notch, the coverage deep and the stories fresh. The photography is part of our award-winning selection of sports photography (a special shout-out to Al Drago is necessary here), and our design team is hard at work to make it the best Sports Preview we've ever had. It's fair, unbiased reporting on the athletes that represent Elon. Schedules for each sport will also be included in the insert.
When can you get it? Glad you asked! Wednesday, Aug. 29. You'll be starting out your second day of school, looking for something new to read in between classes or while at lunch. Why not catch a glimpse of what the volleyball team is looking forward to this year? Or how the Elon women's soccer team is trying to improve on last season? So pick it up!
Where can you get it? Two places. First, on our newsstands. They're the maroon-colored boxes around campus that say "The Pendulum" on them. They'll be in there for you to pick up all day. We'll restock when they run out. Second, right here on our website. Every story, plus a couple of bonus stories will be featured here on elonpendulum.com. You'll want to find the links and post them all over social media.
What's the big idea? We're really putting a big focus on social media this year. As The Pendulum Sports Desk, we plan to provide comprehensive coverage of every sport (as much as college students can) through our individual Twitter pages and The Pendulum Sports Desk's Twitter (@pendulumsports). The Sports Preview will show that.
Whew, I think I'm too hyped right now. Need to calm down a bit. Anyways, be sure to be on the look out for the Sports Preview, on newsstands and online Aug. 29.
