Elon University sophomore guards Austin Hamilton and Kevin Blake are recovering from injuries as the beginning of practice commences for the men's basketball team.
Hamilton, a media and coaches' selection for the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team last season, is still a week to ten days away from returning to full health, while Blake is expected to be out two-and-a-half to three weeks, head coach Matt Matheny said Sunday.
Hamilton missed six games late last season due to the injury as well as battling mononucleosis.
"We’re very, very hopeful that Austin’s only a week to ten days away," Matheny said. "He’s still having problems with his wrist. We hope to get it evaluated in the next seven to ten days. We hope he can come back as soon as he gets reevaluated."
Hamilton said he would be returning to the doctor Wednesday to get his wrist checked.
"I still don’t have the full range of motion, but it’s getting stronger every day." he said. "I go back to the doctor Wednesday, so hopefully I’ll get the okay to start going full-speed."
Blake played in 26 games and average 1.5 points per game as a freshman. He had surgery in the offseason and is dealing with knee problems.
"Kevin is more two-and-a-half to three weeks away," Matheny said. "He’s having some knee issues that are holding him back. So (he and Austin are) still on the injured reserve, if you will."
Neither played in Sunday's Phoenix Preview held in Alumni Gym.
