Elon Campus Safety and Police arrested a young woman after finding a rifle, ammunition and other weapons in her vehicle on Elon University’s campus Nov. 25, according to an email sent by Smith Jackson, vice president and dean of Student Life.

Camp

us security waited outside Danieley Center for Alexis Gray, 18, after receiving warning from her former boyfriend, an Elon student.

“The young woman’s parents reached out to the Elon student, who in turn notified Campus Police immediately about the situation,” Jackson wrote in the email. “Our officers effectively defused the situation and protected everyone involved.”

Gray, a student at a Pennsylvania university, may face felony charges of possession of a firearm on campus. She may face other criminal charges, as well, and she has been permanently banned from the Elon campus.

But the case is not yet underway. Gray is currently being evaluated at a hospital, according to Dan Anderson, vice president of University Communications. It is unclear how long the evaluation will take.

"We don’t know if it’s a quick process or a long process," Anderson said. "When she has completed her evaluation, she will be arrested and charged, and she will be taken into custody by law enforcement officials."

Jana Lynn Patterson, assistant vice president of Student Life, said support is available on campus for students who need it.
