A video at Saturday’s men’s basketball game revealed Big Sean and 3LAU will be playing the SUB Spring Show April 19. The 55-second promo released during the last media timeout of the Elon-Western Carolina game included clips of Justin “3LAU” playing a show and Grammy-nominated Big Sean singing the words to the refrain of his hit song “Dance (A$$) Remix.”
SUB president Joe Ziemba said this show will be very popular in comparison to the past few years’ shows.
“This year I think is going to be a real big turnaround with people and their opinion of who we bring to campus as a whole between [people] like Jay Pharoah, the comedian coming, and the show,” Ziemba said. “This show’s going to be really good. It’s a really good popular artist. I think people are going to be really happy with it.”
Junior Rickford Smith, who was at the game when the show was revealed, agreed with Ziemba’s sentiment.
“I would pay $50 just to go see Big Sean,” Smith said. “This is probably going to be one of the biggest spring concerts we have.”
Theresa Gilligan, a first-year economics major, will not be in town for the show, but said if she was here, she may consider going.
“I’ve never heard of 3LAU,” Gilligan said. “I’ve heard of Big Sean, but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of either by any stretch.”
Gilligan said she would expect the concert to be an insane party.
SUB music chair James Davies said this year’s show should be a good time because people seem to know Big Sean from the many songs he has been featured in this year.
“Based on tweets that I’ve seen so far, people seem pretty excited,” Davies said shortly after the reveal. “I’ve gotten a lot of texts from my friends saying, ‘Oh my God, Big Sean, that’s amazing.’”
Junior Dylan Brock, SUB stage chair, said many people do not know 3LAU by his name, but would recognize his music.
“I think if you’ve gone out to a party or a bar, you’ve probably heard some of their stuff,” Brock said.
Tickets for the Spring Show will be available this week online. SUB will have a Moseley table Tuesday through Thursday where people can buy tickets with cash or their Phoenix card. Tickets are $20 for students, $25 for the public and $27 on the day of the show. Doors for the show will open at 7 p.m. April 19 and the concert will begin at 8 p.m.
3LAU will play first, with the possibility of a student performer opening, and Big Sean will close the show, Davies said. SUB will release more details as the show grows closer.
