Power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z wowed the crowd with an opening number of “Drunk in Love” at last Sunday’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards. The night was filled with respect to newbies such as 17-year-old New Zealand artist Lorde, who took home the award for song of the year and another for best pop solo performance. Country star Kacey Musgraves’ debut album won best country album and Daft Punk also won big this year with four Grammys, taking home the award for album of the year.

Duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis also collected four Grammys, including the honor for best rap album, beating out the likes of Canadian rapper Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Macklemore later Instagramed a screenshot of the text message he sent to California rapper Lamar, expressing his apologies for having robbed him of the award.

Lamar hit the stage with Imagine Dragons for what was, in my opinion, the most epic performance of the night. The collaboration was a never-before-seen remix of “good kid M.A.A.D city” and ”Radioactive.” Lamar may not have won, but he delivered a great show. Japanese artist Yoko Ono and Taylor Swift were just two of the celebrities caught rocking out to the performance.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, she shocked us with some type of semi-convulsive hair swinging routine during her own performance of “All Too Well.

Pink performed the first half of her act swinging from a flying trapeze – yes, a flying trapeze! All I could say was, we get it Pink: we’ll hit the gym tomorrow!

Surprisingly, the Grammys seemed a lot more glamorous than in the past. Black, white and metallic seemed to be the popular colors of choice. Once Beyonce’s hair dried and she no longer looked like a (sexy) wet dog, she dazzled in a long sleeve lace and mesh open-back Michael Costello gown. Katy Perry also graced the red carpet in a white Valentino gown with a skirt decorated with music notes. Swift, Rita Ora and Ciara were among the lot who opted for the metallic look. Lorde looked a bit like a member of the Addam’s family in her Black gown and dark center-parted hair.

I’m still trying to figure out if producer Pharrell came dressed as Andy from Toy Story or a spokesperson for “Arby’s” restaurant in his infamous brown top hat. Do you all remember when Pharrell was apart of the rap group N.E.R.D? Perhaps he was tapping into some of that old weirdness. While I’m laughing, Pharrell is cradling two brand new Grammys, one for Producer of the Year and the other he received on behalf of the hit single “Get Lucky.”

Unfortunately, there was no meat suit on the carpet this year and, I must admit, the Grammys were boring without Gaga and Nicki Minaj. The two were truly missed on the carpet this year!

This year’s Grammys were filled with good and bad fashion choices, French robots, flying trapeze artists and lots of dancing.

Presenters included Bruno Mars, Smokey Robinson, Zac Brown, Cyndi Lauper and Gloria Estefan. The Beatles were celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and rapper Jay-Z took home “a new gold Sippy cup” for his 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy. That was definitely the best quote of the night!

The overall theme of the Grammy’s seemed to be a celebration of love. The show included the historical marriage ceremony of 33 Gay and straight couples during a moving performance of Macklemore and John Lewis’ “Same Love.” These couples were given their vows by Queen Latifah, who is apparently an ordained minister. Who knew?

If you missed the Grammys, check out the winners list and see if your predictions came true.

Congratulations to all the winners! Who were your favorite looks and what was your favorite performance from the 2014 Grammys?
