Three personal records were set by the Elon University women’s track and field team May 19 at the Wolfpack Last Chance Qualifier in Raleigh, N.C.
Sophomore Sydney Griffin set a new record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.56. The Southern Conference indoor champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Griffin’s previous best was a 13.72 in the 100-meter event. She finished third in the race.
Fellow sophomore Tereza Novotna broke her personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which she had just established last week at the Virginia Challenge. Novotna ran a 10:29.28 on Friday, winning the race. Her win and record came just a week after she ran a 10:32.05.
Freshman Kimberly Johansen established a new personal record in the 1,500-meter event, placing sixth with a 4:29.92.
Additionally, freshman Jennifer Esposito placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.60.
Elon will send runners to the NCAA East Regionals May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. The Phoenix runners will learn if they have been invited on May 22.
