Burlington's Director of Planning and Economic Development, Amy Nelson, discussed some of Alamance Crossing's current construction and future plans.
"[Construction] encourages competition amongst stores, which keeps the prices low," Nelson said. "In addition to helping you keep your property taxes low, it also keeps your checkbook a little more in balance."
Workers are currently building what will soon be a 244-unit apartment complex near the Five Below and Dick's Sporting Goods stores.
The apartment complex will be called "Retreat at the Park," named after the Joe C. Davidson Park located across the street.
New restaurants are also coming to that area with this new development. A hamburger restaurant called Freddy's will soon be built near the BJ's gas station, following the recently built Smithfield's Chicken 'N Barbecue.
The largest development will be the new Drurry Inn and Suites Hotel, which will be 6 stories tall.
"We have a nice benefit with all of this construction," Nelson said.
