Freshman guard Elijah Bryant shined once again, leading the Elon University men's basketball team over the Drexel Dragons 77-67 in its inaugural Colonial Athletic Association game in Philadelphia.
Bryant, a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week, came off the bench for the Phoenix and scored a season-high 32 points while tallying seven rebounds and three assists. He finished the game 10-of-20 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Elon as a team shot 55 percent from beyond the arc including 10 first-half threes.
It was a back-and-forth battle early in the first half until Bryant and junior Tanner Samson nailed back-to-back three-point shots to push Elon ahead. The Phoenix went into halftime with an 18-point lead, 46-28
In the second period, Bryant added another 15 points. Elon lead by as many as 20 points and held off a late comeback effort by the Dragon's Damion Lee.
The Phoenix rounded up 32 rebounds, 20 on the defensive end of the floor.
Elon's bench scored 47 points compared to the starters who scored just 30.
The Phoenix improve to 9-5 (1-0) on the season and heads to Baltimore Monday night to face off against the Towson TIgers.
