Elon women's tennis team rebounded from a loss to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Jan. 9 when they defeated South Carolina State University 6-1 on Jan. 20.
Elon won five of six singles matches, and two of three doubles matches, pushing the Phoenix to 1-1 on the season.
This marked the Phoenix's first home match for the spring season. Ranked 75, the Phoenix are a young team.
Out of the team's nine players, there are six freshmen including Bridget Liddel, Kamilla Beisenova, Erica Braschi, Bailey Edwards, Olivia Lucas and Kirsten Ward.
Olivia Lucas, Kamilla Lazarova, Erica Braschi, Camara Ruiz, Kamilla Beisenova and Taylor Casey all won their singles matches. Taylor Casey and Olivia Lucas, and Camara Ruiz and Kamilla Lazarova teamed up to win two rounds of doubles.
Head coach Elizabeth Anderson was happy with the win. "It was good to see the team play well, and working through some nerves in this match will help us out for our following matches this weekend," she said.
The Elon Women's Tennis will travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend Jan. 23-25. There, they will play the University of Florida and either the University of Maryland or Georgia State University.
