Avery Steadman, figure skating enthusiast, accounting major, and newly elected SGA President.
Steadman was raised in Buffalo, N.Y., where she acquired a passion for figure skating.
"When we moved to Buffalo, I needed to get involved in something. So when I was two years old I started skating," Steadman said. "I kind of just fell in love with it, it was my favorite thing to do growing up. I remember every Tuesday in second grade was skating day."
Although she occasionally makes visits to the local rink in Greensboro, N.C., Steadman has been appreciative of the things she has been able to accomplish in the absence of skating.
"It is definitely different not having it but I'm so glad because it has opened up some many opportunities aside from skating," Steadman said.
Steadman has always been one to take risks, whether it be on the ice or behind the podium.
"I did lose my election for historian in high school and then on a whim in my first week of school here it was like 2 or 3 hours were due for SGA and I was like you know what I'm going to run for SGA treasurer," Steadman said.
Steadman hopes her willingness to give SGA another twirl will send a message to incoming Elon students.
"I'm hoping to instill a lot of passion or the idea to look for a passion or to find something you're so enthralled by such that you want to do it, no matter what," she said.
Though now she is only focusing on her role as student body president here at Elon, for all she knows the real oval office could be next.
"Right now I'm like that would be the most scary job ever but at the same time I never thought I'd do this," Steadman said.
