The No. 10-ranked Elon University men's soccer team allowed two unanswered goals through headers to Duke as the Blue Devils defeated the Phoenix 2-1 in overtime.
Junior forward Brody Huitema scored in the final minute of the first overtime period as he got on the end of a cross after linking up with a pair of teammates in the 99th minute.
The Phoenix took the lead in the match in the 14th minute with a goal from senior forward Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler. The Cary native scored his fourth goal of the season by tapping in a cross from senior midfielder James Brace after he received the ball from sophomore midfielder Luis Argudo.
Elon didn't keep the lead for long, conceding an equalizer just seven minutes later. Duke sophomore midfielder Brian White headed home a cross from sophomore defender Carter Manley for his fifth goal of the season.
CQ - HSon the season. Elon is now 1-1 against Atlantic Coast Conference opposition, having previously defeated then-ranked No.7 Wake Forest University 1-0 Sept. 15.
Elon will resume Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play for its final regular season road match at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 with a visit to No. 24 Hofstra University.
