The Elon University baseball team’s four-game winning streak was snapped in a 6-2 loss to Bowling Green at Latham Park on March 4.

Senior infielder Tyler McVicar hit his first home run of the season to give Elon (4-6) an early 1-0 lead at the bottom of the third inning.

But the Phoenix couldn’t recover after Bowling Green’s (2-5) three-run seventh. After two walks and a single loaded the bases for the Falcons, sophomore centerfielder Kory Brown singled to tie the game. A stolen base followed by a single from redshirt junior infielder Nick Glanzman gave Bowling Green a 3-1 lead.

Bowling Green added another run in the eighth before junior infielder CJ Young grounded out to cut the Falcons’ lead to 4-2. The Falcons scored two runs in the ninth to put the game away.

Junior infielder Nick Zammarelli went 1-for-5, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games in the loss.

Senior pitcher Devin Daugherty recorded the win for the Falcons in relief of redshirt-junior starter C.J. Schildt, while junior pitcher Matt Harris took the loss for the Phoenix.

Elon looks to get back to their winning ways on Saturday as it hosts Stony Brook at 12:30 p.m.
