UPDATED: Friday, March 17, 7:00 p.m.
Officers from the Burlington Police Department and the N.C. SWAT team evacuated Holly Hill Mall Friday evening after a report of an armed person.
According to Chris Verdeck, Burlington Police Department assistant chief, an emergency call was placed around 5 p.m. on Friday after someone allegedly ran out of a store yelling, "there's a man with a gun."
There have been no confirmed reports of suspects, shots fired or injuries. The Burlington Police Department advised community members to avoid the area until further notice. The area is currently on lockdown, with police surrounding mall exits and entrances.
At around 6:30 p.m., the mall was reopened to employees after officers cleared the mall twice.
"We did not find any evidence this ever actually did occur," Verdeck told reporters, after the situation was given an "all-clear."
The mall was reopened by 7:00 p.m.
