The Elon University lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the program's four-year history.
The NCAA released the list of 26 teams that will play in the tournament Sunday night. The Phoenix will play against Virginia in Chapel Hill on Friday, May 12. The time of the match has not yet been set.
The Phoenix beat Virginia earlier in the season, defeating the Cavaliers by a score of 11-10 back in February.
Despite a 15-7 loss to top-ranked James Madison University in the CAA Championship game on Sunday, May 7, the team will still be dancing. The Phoenix finishes the season with a 13-6 record, the most wins in Elon lacrosse history.
Three Elon players were named to the CAA All-Tournament team after their performance this weekend. They include Stephanie Asher, Alexis Zadjura and Rachel Ramirez.
Asher has 58 goals on the season, the most in Elon program history.
