Former Elon University professor Peter Kiwitt was convicted for possessing a sexual performance by a child in April 2017 in Greece, N.Y.
Kiwitt was an assistant professor of cinema at Elon from 2005 to 2009, also serving as an advisor to the Cinelon student film organization.
At the time of his arrest, Kiwitt was working as a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where two Title IX complaints were filed against him during his time at the school.
The crime committed by Kiwitt is described by the New York State Unified Court System as "knowingly having in possession or control... or knowingly accessing with intent to view... any performance which includes sexual conduct by a child less than sixteen years of age."
Kiwitt was unable to be reached for comment.
