The Lamb’s Chapel, located on 415 Roxboro Road in Haw River, opened its doors this morning at 10 a.m. for people seeking emergency shelter during the storm. The American Red Cross is operating and staffing the shelter, along with other county officials.
According to the Red Cross, the only requirement to stay in the shelter is a form of identification to enter upon signing in.
The shelter can allow for approximately 100 people to stay overnight, use shower facilities, and eat.
The Red Cross is encouraging people heading to the shelter to bring their own pillows, blankets, prescription medication and other personal items.
Gail Barnett, disaster recovery lead for the Red Cross, is on staff at the shelter during the storm, working on a volunteer basis.
Barnett said the shelter will remain open through the conclusion of the storm, and no closing date has been set. If the shelter reaches maximum capacity, another one will open if necessary.
