Elon’s Campus Recreation and Wellness is offering free exercise classes during the first week of school through Sept. 1.
“I think it is a great time to give people the opportunity to try out a whole bunch of things that they might not otherwise try, especially during such a busy time when people are trying to figure out what works for them and what doesn’t work for them,” Sarah Johnson, junior Group X instructor, said.
Johnson is one of the 14 instructors teaching 28 classes this fall, including everything from booty barre to Zumba.
“I thought it was a very good workout. Especially coming from a summer of not working out,” junior Katherine Williams said after taking Johnson’s cycle and high intensity interval training (HIIT) class.
Johnson’s classes come with extra passion this year after passing a 150-question certification exam this summer. “I think I brought a lot more knowledge to the table and it was really great to be able educate participants at the same time as giving them a great, fun community workout,” Johnson said.
Williams said students should take advantage of this time to try something new. “It can’t hurt to try it if it doesn’t go your way, it doesn’t go your way and you don’t have to do it again,” Williams said.
Students interested in signing up for a class this week or in the future can download the IMLeagues app or go to www.imleagues.com.
After this week, students will be required to purchase a 20 dollar Group X sticker from Koury 104A to participate in Group X classes.
