Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh was named the 2020 Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year. McIntosh was joined by fellow freshman guard Hunter Woods as members of the CAA All-Rookie team this year. Graduate transfer guard Marcus Sheffield II was named to the All-CAA second team.
McIntosh lead all freshman in scoring this season with 355 points. McIntosh was the leading 3-point shooter among all freshmen in 3-pointers made (71) and threes per game (2.3). McIntosh paced the Phoenix in 3-pointers and 3-point attempts (173). The freshman’s 355 points were second on the team only to Sheffield II.
“It's definitely been just a blessing,” McIntosh said. “I think ever since I've stepped foot here over the summer, I've just seen improvement in my game. So it’s definitely a testament to the staff. I've been putting a lot of work in myself, but, you know, any awards that come my way, you know, that's just icing on the cake.”
Sheffield II, the Phoenix leading scorer, was named to the all-conference second team after his first and last season at Elon. Sheffield II totaled 578 points, averaging 18.6 points per game. Sheffield scored 20 or more points in 13 games.
Woods also was named to the All-Rookie team after a 303 point season and 9.8 points per game. Woods ranked third only behind Sheffield II and McIntosh in both categories. Woods was a defensive standout this year, leading the team in defensive rebounds (161) and steals (30).
