The Elon Student Government Association is having its spring 2021 elections on March 18 and 19 via PhoenixConnect.
Students will be able to vote for members of the executive board, as well as their class representatives and members of the finance board.
Below are the class of 2024 representative positions and what their roles and responsibilities are.
Class president
The class president represents their class throughout Elon University as a whole. Each class president has specific initiatives and serves on different committees in SGA. They focus on issues that directly impact their class year, and are in charge of planning events for their year.
Andrew Lymm
Major: International Relations and Finance
Home state: Connecticut
Goal: "Elon needs to make its disciplinary process less punitive, provide as much financial relief to students as possible, and continue to build better diversity."
Britt Mobley
Major: Strategic Communications and Media Analytics.
Home state: North Carolina
Goal: "My goal is to increase diversity, build communication with the student body, and to build community for the class of 2024."
Class Vice President — uncontested
The Class Vice President also aids in event planning and carrying out initiatives the president has for the class. Their position also determines appointments and voting on legislation during business meetings.
Chloe Higgins
Major: Political Science and Economics, Leadership studies minor
Home state: Massachusetts
Goal: "My goal is to be an advocate for others and ensure that everyone’s ideas are valued, while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives."
Class secretary — uncontested
The class secretary is in charge of communication throughout their class. By focusing on social media, and keeping lines of communication open between class representatives, the secretary works to make sure their class delegates work efficiently and smoothly together.
Matthew Barker
Major: Cinema and Television Arts
Home state: Illinois
Goal: "I hope to make my class proud by serving to their benefit."
Class treasurer
The class treasurer manages the finance for each class, and also has a seat on the Finance Board. The Treasurer is responsible for facilitating reimbursements for class events.
Zeth Dixon
Major: Music Theatre and Arts Administration
Home state: Tennessee
Goal: "Help foster a better Elon Community through reciprocity, engagement and inclusion."
Gabriella Gutiérrez
Major: Entrepreneurship
Home state: Virginia
Goal: "I want to ensure that all students feel comfortable on Elon's campus and can feel like it is their home away from home and hopefully, when things start to get back to normal, we can plan and have class events to make up for the time we lost!"
Class senator
Once elected, each senator is responsible for voting on legislation introduced in SGA meetings. They are also required to join committees in SGA. The sophomore class has two senators.
Demetria Hall
Major: Political Science
Home state: North Carolina
Goal: "As your senator, I will advocate for students' inputs and ideas to the senate, along with advocating for students' mental health, safety, and sense of community on campus."
Genesis Tolbert
Major: Biochemistry
Home state: North Carolina
Goal: "Once elected, I plan to increase sustainability efforts and inclusivity on Elon's campus."
Connor Johnson
Johnson did not respond to Elon News Network's inquiries on major, home state and goal if elected.
