Correction: The floor in Mill Point Building 471 had structural damage. A previous headline said the floor collapsed, rather than had structural damage. Elon News Network regrets this error.
Residents in Building 471 at the Station at Mill Point are evacuating today after a second-floor apartment sustained structural damage to the floor’s frame.
According to a university spokesman, the damage was due to a large number of people in the apartment that greatly exceeded the established capacity for the apartment, which is currently 10 people due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Campus Safety & Police, Physical Plant and Student Life were on-site following reports of the damage. Residence Life is working with occupants of the damaged apartment as well as the first-floor apartment beneath it to find alternate accommodations while the apartment is repaired. There were no injuries reported.
Previously, there was a partial floor collapse at the Station at Mill Point in 2019.
