Elon Women’s volleyball team (9-5) continued its 2021 Colonial Athletic Association conference slate with a straight set victory over the University of Delaware Blue Hens (5-8) on Sept. 26. The Phoenix defeated the Blue Hens on Sept. 25 in a five-set thriller.
Elon controlled the contest throughout, winning in straight sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-20. The Phoenix did not allow Delaware to make any inroads at the Schar Center. Senior outside hitter Leah Daniel continued her stellar form with 16 kills, while senior setter Haylie Clark pitched in 37 assists as Elon controlled the match throughout.
The Phoenix is beginning to hit its stride early in conference play. Elon has won six of its last seven contests, including an undefeated 4-0 conference record.
Head Coach Mary Tendler said she likes where her team is at following a sweep over a conference opponent.
“Offensively, we were hitting on all cylinders,” Tendler said. “Beating Delaware was a huge win for us.”
Elon will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday, Oct. 2, as the Phoenix travel to Maryland to take on the Towson Tigers in a CAA matchup at 2 p.m.
“We have an experienced team and they know each match is huge,” Tendler said. “Our goal is to win our next match against Towson on Saturday and we are focused on winning that one match.”
