Elon University’s cross country teams completed their regular season by competing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Tallahassee, Florida.
Florida State University hosted the event on the same course that November’s NCAA Cross Country Championships will take place. Elon was the only Colonial Athletic Association team to participate in both the men’s and women’s races.
With 494 points, Elon’s men’s team placed 18th out of 31 teams in the 8k race. Junior Aidan Tierney led the way for the Phoenix, finishing 58th out of 256 runners with a time of 25:32. Senior Andrew Miller finished 96th with a time of 26:00. Junior Tamer Metwalli and sophomores Cameron Dunn and Zane Jackson also scored for the Phoenix.
Elon’s women’s team placed 23rd out of 33 teams in the 6k race with 576 points. Junior Maria Ahm paced the Phoenix with a time of 20:38 to finish 46th out of 243 runners, with junior Maggie Springer also coming in the top 100 with a time of 21:05. Senior Hannah Preeo, freshman Jette Beermann and junior Hannah Miller rounded out the team’s scoring.
Both teams are now set to begin the postseason, beginning with the CAA Championships on Oct. 30. Northeastern University will host the event in Boston.
Elon’s women’s team will compete for its third consecutive conference championship, while the men’s team seeks its first CAA title.
