Elon University’s women’s soccer team (7-5-2) tied with the William & Mary Tribe in a goalless 0-0 stalemate.
Despite the scoreline, there was a lot of action in a vital match for the Phoenix. Elon had 11 total shots with eight of them on goal. William & Mary produced 15 shots with eight shots on goal as well.
The play of defenders Katie Lowe, Kayla Hodges and Samantha Dominguez aided goalkeeper McKenna Dalfonso in keeping the Tribe scoreless. Dalfonso’s eight saves were a career high.
Elon now sits tied alongside the University of Delaware for fifth place in the Colonial Athletic Association conference standings. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the CAA Tournament, which begins on Nov. 4. By earning a point against William & Mary, the Phoenix are just one point behind fourth place James Madison University.
The Phoenix will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 24th, to host the Hofstra University Pride, who rank 25th in this week’s United Soccer Coaches poll, which is voted on by Division I head coaches. The match is the final one at home for Elon this season.
