Elon University’s Healthy Committee announced that the indoor mask policy will remain effective during Winter Term and January 2022. Students, employees and visitors must continue to wear masks in indoor campus spaces, except when alone in a private office, in a residence hall or apartment, or while eating or drinking.
In an email from Jeff Stein, chair of the Healthy Elon Committee, the spread of COVID-19 has increased in the region of North Carolina. According to Stein, 18 new COVID-19 cases were identified Nov. 29 through Dec. 10, days before Elon’s winter break.
The university strongly recommends that all students, faculty and staff get the COVID-19 booster vaccination before January.
“Now is the time, during winter break, to ensure you are protected against serious illness from the ongoing spread of COVID-19,” Stein wrote.
On-campus booster vaccine clinics will be held in early January. Individuals can also visit vaccines.gov to find locations near them to schedule a booster shot.
According to the email, policies regarding COVID-19 for the spring semester will be communicated to the university in January, based on recommendations from health authorities and the level of virus transmission at that time.
