Chapel Hill - Elon University’s women’s tennis team was overpowered by the No. 3 University of North Carolina Tar Heels, losing its first match of the season 7-0.
The Tar Heels took the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1 to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
North Carolina continued its momentum in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Only sophomore Alison O’Dea and junior Julie Ball won more than four games in any singles set.
With the loss, Elon falls to 0-17 all-time against North Carolina. The Phoenix continues its season Jan. 22 against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
