The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning this morning for central North Carolina. The warning goes into effect at midnight on Jan. 16 and will last until midnight on Jan. 17.
Snow accumulations are expected to reach three inches, while ice accumulations are predicted to be over a quarter of an inch. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph and power outages are likely.
Based on the weather warnings, Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley urges the Elon community to be prepared for the possibility of power outages. While he wrote several main buildings can operate with generators in the event of power failure, such as McEwen Dining Hall and the Moseley Center, residential facilities are not equipped with generators.
Students and staff on campus should make sure their electronics are fully charged, as well as have prepared resources like flashlights, batteries and non-perishable food and beverages that can be prepared without electric appliances.
Traveling is strongly discouraged and updates on the storm will occur as needed.
