HARRISONBURG, Va. — After losing the first two games of its series against the James Madison University Dukes, the Elon University baseball team rebounded with a 10-2 victory in the final game Sunday.

Elon raced out to a 3-0 lead through two innings as redshirt sophomore right fielder Alex Iadisernia and redshirt sophomore third baseman Connor Coolahan delivered RBI singles.

After a scoreless third inning, the Phoenix added another run in the fourth when freshman left fielder Charlie Granatell stole home base, and scored two more in the fifth on an RBI double from redshirt junior second baseman Carlos Marte and a sacrifice line out by Grantell.

The Phoenix went ahead 9-0 in the seventh inning as Marte, Granatell and Coolahan all drove in a run for Elon. James Madison put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh, but another RBI from Coolahan in the ninth put Elon ahead 10-2.

Freshman pitcher Shea Sprague made his second career start and pitched a career-high six innings in the victory. He allowed no runs and just three hits to go along with six strikeouts. Redshirt junior Kyle Greenler and sophomore Ben Simon pitched the final three innings for Elon.

Elon’s offense produced a season-high 15 hits and seven players had multiple hits. Coolahan had a team-high three RBI while Granatell and Marte both had two RBI.

The win improves Elon’s record in Colonial Athletic Association games to 2-4. Elon will return home to play a non-conference game against Wake Forest University on April 5. Wake Forest previously defeated Elon 10-2 on March 1.
