HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Elon University lacrosse team struggled against the James Madison Dukes, losing 18-2 for its second straight conference loss.
The Phoenix scored first to take a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore attacker Bridget Kelly. However, the team went over 54 minutes without scoring and scored in the fourth quarter with about three and a half minutes remaining. James Madison scored 18 times in between Elon’s two goals.
James Madison outshot Elon 32-12, won 15 of 23 draws and had just nine turnovers compared to Elon’s 17. James Madison is currently ranked 11th in the country and is now on a five-match winning streak. Elon has lost nine of 10 all-time meetings with James Madison.
This was Elon’s largest conference loss since 2015, when the team lost 22-5 against James Madison.
With back-to-back losses in Colonial Athletic Association games, Elon now has a 1-2 conference record. Elon returns home for a game against the University of Delaware on April 16.
