Updated as of May 18, 2022 at 12:13 a.m. to include the primary election results.
As the former district 63 representative from 2013 to 2020, Stephen Ross will be running as a Republican for the North Carolina House of Representatives. Ross is the winner of the May 17 primary. He received 2,171 ballots, which is 49.79%.
After losing in 2020 by only 1% of the vote to current Representative Ricky Hurtado, Ross is running on a position of economic development for Burlington and the surrounding areas, according to his campaign website.
Having lived in Alamance County for his whole life, Ross has formerly served on Burlington’s city council and as mayor of Burlington. He also supports job reform in North Carolina, increasing school funding and school choice and is against critical race theory. He also believes in lower taxes and better transportation infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, and in defending Constitutional rights from what he calls “activist judges.”
