DEDHAM, Mass. – The Elon University track and field team leads the team leaderboard following the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Track & Field Championships.
Elon scored 46 points in its five events and is four points ahead of second place Towson University. Elon also held an opening round after the first day in last year’s event and went on to win the team championship.
Junior Maria Ahm won the 10,000-meter race for her first individual conference championship in track and field. Ahm, who has won the last two individual CAA cross country championships, posted a time of 35:13. Junior Maggie Springer came in second place with a time of 35:15 and sophomore Lizzie Vinci also scored points for Elon with a sixth place finish.
Junior Kaitlin McGoogan placed third in the hammer throw competition with a toss of 56.91 meters and junior Lauryn Carlton finished fourth with a personal best toss of 53.25 meters.
Elon also scored in the javelin throw, as sophomore Grace Dieleman placed fourth and sophomore Hollie Thurgood placed seventh with a personal best throw of 35.21 meters.
Freshman Alexa Mark finished sixth in the long jump competition to score for Elon and junior Madison George placed fifth in the pole vault to secure points for the team.
Tomorrow’s final day at the Solomon Outdoor Track on the campus of Northeastern University will begin at 11:30 a.m.
