Three players are tied atop the leaderboard after the first two rounds of the Wyndham Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season.
A 30 minute drive from Elon, Sedgefield Country Club has hosted the Wyndham Championship since 2008. This is the only major professional sporting event that Greensboro hosts annually.
After opening with a quadruple-bogey in Thursday’s first round, Joo-Hyung Kim shot a second round 64 to vault into a tie for the 36-hole lead along with Brandon Wu and Ryan Moore. Kim and Wu have never won on the PGA Tour, and Moore last won in 2016 at the John Deere Classic.
Four former world No. 1 players competed in the event. Adam Scott and Luke Donald made the cut, while Justin Rose is currently one shot below the cut line with four players yet to finish their second rounds due to a weather delay late in the day Friday. Jason Day posted an opening round 67 but withdrew from the tournament Friday morning, citing an illness.
After this tournament, the top 125 players in the PGA Tour’s season-long FedEx Cup standings will advance to the playoffs and secure their tour card for next season. Players that finish outside the top 125 at the end of this week will not retain full PGA Tour status for the 2022-23 season and will have to either rely on conditional status or compete in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals to regain their card.
The third round will take place Aug. 6 and the final round is Aug. 7.
