After a double overtime win against Richmond Oct. 1, Elon football now ranks No. 14 in the nation in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll.
Led by senior quarterback Matthew McKay, who had 322 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air, the Phoenix was able to squeak out a double overtime win against a talented Richmond team.
Senior kicker Skyler Davis drilled a 42-yard field goal to send the game to overtime. Both teams scored in the first overtime, but freshman running back Jalen Hampton called the game with an 11-yard touchdown run in the second overtime.
Senior wide receiver Bryson Daughtry led the Phoenix in receiving yards, putting up an impressive 4 receptions, 134 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. McKay connected with Daughtry on a 74-yard touchdown catch on the first Elon offensive play, providing a spark for the team.
No. 14 ranked Elon will face Towson Oct. 8 at Rhodes Stadium. The 4-1 Phoenix looks to increase its winning streak to five as Towson comes to Elon looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
