A juvenile has been detained in connection with the murders of Devin Clark and Lyric Woods.
Clark, a senior at Eastern Alamance High School and former wide receiver on his school’s football team, and Woods, a freshman at Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, were found dead on Sept. 18 just off a power line easement. The two were reported missing Sept. 17.
A suspect was first identified in the investigation on Sept. 20.
According to a press release Oct. 5, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office cannot release any further information at this time, including the name of the individual or any other details about the apprehension because the case is under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court.
“We understand our community is hungry for information to help process this tragedy; however, the laws regarding juvenile confidentiality are ironclad,” Sheriff Charles Blackwood wrote. “We have no ability to set them aside, even given the heightened interest in this case.”
Assistant District Attorney Anna Orr confirmed the individual detained is 17 years old. That person is the same one the sheriff's office filed a juvenile petition against Sept. 20. The 17 year was charged with two counts of first degree murder.
