Lillian Argabrite, an Elon University freshman, and her younger sister Caroline sat in the front row at the first show of the annual Rockapella concert tonight in Alumni Gym.
All seven of Elon a cappella groups — Sweet Signatures, Melanated Melodies, Rip_Chord, Shirley Tempos, Smooth Progressions, Vital Signs and Twisted Measure — performed for Elon parents and families in their annual Family Weekend concert.
Caroline is a senior in high school and visiting her sister for Family Weekend. She said she picked the front row because she was excited to experience her first a cappella show.
“This is really, really cool. I’ve always been a big music person,” Caroline said. “It worked out timing wise that we got here early, but we’re excited we got to sit front row.”
Lillian had also never seen an a cappella show until tonight. She said she has been excited about this event and experiencing her first Elon show.
“It’s really impressive what they do, and we both did theater, so connections to music,” Lillian said.
Peggy Watson was also in attendance to watch her freshman daughter Rosie perform in her first a cappella show at Elon. Watson said it was great to see her daughter’s first performance.
“She’s just a freshman. She’s only been here for five weeks. She looked beautiful and sang like an angel,” Watson said.
Watson said she looks forward to seeing more performances from Elon a cappella. She called tonight’s performance “fabulous.”
“They are really talented and they have a lot of energy and a lot of positive energy,” Watson said.
All seven of Elon’s a cappella groups are set to perform again at Shirley Tempo’s annual Acapocalypse, which benefits Elon Academy Oct. 8.
