Republican Richard Dietz has won the North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Seat 3 against his opponent Democrat Lucy Inman, winning 52.59% of the vote.
Dietz has served on the North Carolina Court of Appeals since 2014 and before joining the court, he was a partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.
Dietz believes in focusing on the U.S. Constitution, according to his campaign video on his website.
“My most important job, when I put on the robe, is to defend our constitutional rights,” Dietz said in the video. “And what's the most important part of the constitution? It’s the first three words. Literally, the big words. It’s ‘We the people.’ But these days, too many folks think it's we the judges. We need a majority on our supreme court that understands a judge's role is to defend the constitution.”
