The Alamance Burlington Board of Education voted to terminate the employment of Ivan Danilo Ardila-Perez, a Southern Middle School teacher, during its work session Tuesday. Perez, 37, had been a Spanish teacher and soccer coach.
According to a press release, detectives with the Special Victims Unit served Perez four additional warrants on Monday. He is being charged on each warrant with one count of indecent liberties with a student and one count of felony indecent liberties with a child.
As of May 9, in total, Perez has been charged with six counts of felony indecent liberties with a student and six counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.
Perez was initially arrested on April 26 and remains in the Alamance County Detention Center. With the additional charges, his bond was increased from $100,000 to $300,000.
The release said that as of Tuesday, six students have come forward and spoke with detectives about their interactions with Perez. The students range in age from 11 to 13 years old. These victims are receiving advocacy services from a local child advocacy center, Crossroads.
The investigation is on-going, with more charges possible. Those with information, or anyone who may have been a victim, are encouraged to call 911 and ask to speak with a Special Victims Unit Detective.
