Updated as of 5:10 p.m. on Sept. 12 to include comment from Elon's Downtown Development Director.
Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley sent an email today informing students of a Town of Elon lane closure on North Williamson Avenue tomorrow, Sept. 13, from West Lebanon Avenue to West Haggard Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dooley originally said the closure would take place on Nov. 13, but sent a follow-up email two hours later clarifying the closure will occur on Sept. 13.
Traffic will be one-way due to construction. Dooley advised drivers to "allow for extra travel time or take an alternate route."
According to Town of Elon’s Downtown Development Director Jill Weston, Elon is closing the lane in order to pour concrete into the sidewalk spaces currently fenced off for plaza construction. After Sept. 13, the sidewalk space next to Pandora’s Pies — which is currently blocked off by fencing — will reopen.
“We'll be able to have that sidewalk access and we can move the fence in a little bit to make it a little bit easier to get around,” Weston said.
Weston also said that this will most likely be the only day where Elon will have to close a lane or a road for plaza construction.
“If you don’t have to drive, stay on foot tomorrow. If you know the alternate routes, take them,” Weston said. “That’s what I’m going to do.”
