Walking around and greeting families at the Schar Center is Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley’s favorite part of the move in experience at Elon. The drive-through system, adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, allows for Dooley to see the new families — and their excitement — first-hand. — and their excitement — first-hand.

“Move in day is one of the most exciting days of the year,” Dooley said.,” Dooley said. ““The weather is great, energy is high, and students are excited.” 

Dooley also said that move-in is the start of a new experience for students, giving them the chance to move somewhere new and make new friends.

“I’m most excited about getting students here, moved into their residence halls, and going and making new friends,” Dooley said. “Everything’s new for students on their first day, I’m excited to see students moving into their new space.” 

Brothers Sam and Nick Brown are excited to be at school together, with junior Nick helping move in his younger brother Sam.

“I’m excited and eager to move in,” Sam said. 



John Barnhill, associate vice president for university advancement, graduated from Elon in 1992 and talked about his excitement for moving new students in as an alumni. 

“This is my favorite day of the year. I remember when I first moved in, and my parents threw my bags over the wall and said ‘see you in four years’, and I’m still here 30 years later,” Barnhill said. “I’m so excited for these new students. They’re about to have the best four years, and the best experience here. I’m excited and ready to go.”
