Congressman and Democratic candidate Jeff Jackson won his bid for attorney general of North Carolina with 51.65% of the votes statewide.
While North Carolina had a Republican majority in the state general assembly heading into the 2024 election, the swing state had a Democratic triplex in the officers of governor, secretary of state and attorney general — all three of which were up for election this cycle. Jackson’s win defends one leg of this triangle for the Democratic Party.
WRAL reported that Republican candidate Dan Bishop conceded the race at 11:32 p.m.
Jackson has represented North Carolina’s 14th District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2022, but served in the state senate from 2014 to 2022. Prior to that, Jackson served in the military for 22 years.
Jackson has also gained national attention for his political presence on TikTok, on which he has roughly 2.2 million followers.
According to his campaign website, Jackson has campaigned on being a bipartisan vote for North Carolina and ran on issues such as protecting abortion rights, improving the justice system, safeguarding voting rights and combating gerrymandering.
