Updated as of 12:55 p.m. on April 10 to include Simpkins' social media post.

Elon men’s basketball’s leading scorer in points per game from last season TK Simpkins is transferring to the University of Oregon.

Simpkins announced on social media on April 9 that he is transferring. Simpkins was instrumental for the Phoenix this year as he made the All-CAA Second Team by leading the team in points with an average of 16.4 points per game. He was second on the team in 3-pointers with 58 and was third in assists with 70. He shot 36.7% from beyond the arc and 42.3% from the field.

Simpkins was a key part of Elon’s gameplan down the stretch as he averaged 25.6 points per game over his final six games of the season. Simpkins has been at the forefront of the team’s offensive gameplan ever since he transferred in 2023. In his first season, he led the Phoenix in scoring at 13.8 points per game and in total assists with 90. He took a step forward this year, improving his PPG by almost three points.

His departure will leave a gaping hole in the team’s offense as Elon struggles to retain any part of its starting lineup from last year. Simpkins is the first of nine Elon players that entered the portal last month to officially transfer. Aside from the four walk-ons on the team, sophomore Isacc Harrell and freshman Trey O’Neil are the only remaining scholarship players on the roster, according to the recruiting database Verbal Commits

Simpkins’ brother, TJ, is still in the portal, looking for a potential match. TJ, along with TK, traveled to Louisiana State University earlier this month for a recruiting visit, per the recruiting database On3. TJ reportedly also met with Seton Hall University over Zoom on April 9, according to 247 Sports.

This past season the University of Oregon went 25-10 and earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, eventually losing in the second round. Simpkins is joining a program that has made the NCAA Tournament 19 times and is in the Big 10, a Power Four conference. Elon has never made it to the NCAA Tournament in its Division I history.
