Elon men’s basketball’s star TJ Simpkins is transferring to Seton Hall University, according to an announcement on social media April 12.

Simpkins was a key aspect of Elon’s offense as he averaged 14.6 points per game with the third most total points on the team. He had an average of 3.8 rebounds per game and the second most total assists with 85. He led the team in steals with 45 and added 11 blocks on the season. Simpkins was impressive against Power Four opponents this year, scoring 18 against North Carolina and 16 against Notre Dame.

Simpkins only played for Elon for one year, after he transferred from Northwest Florida State College. With Simpkins transferring, the Phoenix will be down three players from last year’s starting line up, with senior Sam Sherry graduating and TK Simpkins officially transferring. TJ Simpkins is the second of nine Elon players that entered the portal last month to officially transfer. Aside from the four walk-ons on the team, sophomore Isacc Harrell and freshman Trey O’Neil are the only remaining scholarship players on the roster, according to the recruiting database Verbal Commits

Simpkins’ brother, TK, announced that he was transferring from Elon to the University of Oregon on April 9.

This past season Seton Hall went 7-25 in the Big East Conference, finishing the season on a seven-game losing streak. Simpkins is joining a program that has made the NCAA Tournament 14 times but hasn’t made it since 2022. Elon has never made it to the NCAA Tournament in its Division I history.
