Elon University academic council plans for final months of the semester

As students, faculty and staff head into the final months on campus for the 2021-22 academic school year, Elon University’s academic council met to discuss a new course requirement for future students, elections for faculty councils and streamlining on-campus, faculty committee work.

New Alamance county sheriff candidate announces campaign focused on diversity

After filing his candidacy in the last hour before the deadline last Friday, Kelly White publicly announced his campaign for Sheriff in Alamance County. He is running against incumbent Terry Johnson, who has been in the position since 2002 and hasn’t faced a challenger in his past two elections.

Elon Board of Aldermen discusses new zoning laws, announces resignation of planning director

In the March 7 planning session, the town of Elon’s Board of Aldermen announced that Pamela DeSoto, the assistant town manager and planning director, will be resigning March 25. The board also discussed plans to add alternative zoning laws, improve police relations with the community and change the Board’s meeting dates and name per the town charter.

Elon University junior Lauryn Carlton shares throwing success locally

Lauryn Carlton grew up in Burlington and attended Western Alamance High School — just a few miles from Elon University’s campus. Carlton said she’d anticipated that if she continued with a sport in college, it would be soccer — not football or track and field. But when she accepted Elon’s offer, she didn’t realize that she would continue to share her strength and success with her hometown.

No set date for when construction on downtown Elon patio will begin

After months of waiting, there is still no set date for construction on downtown Elon’s plaza, despite the plans having been drawn up for months. Town of Elon manager Rich Roedner said that before the town can start construction, they have to figure out the finances.

Elon University men’s basketball falls to UNC Wilmington 75-58

The Elon University men’s basketball team season came to an end with a 75-58 loss to the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks in the quarterfinal game of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. Despite the Phoenix maintaining a lead for the entirety of the first half, UNCW came out flying in the second half to take the lead, and never let it go.

Elon University women’s basketball wins final regular season game

Elon will receive a first-round bye in the CAA Tournament and will play its first game on March 11 against the College of Charleston Cougars at 2:30 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by Drexel University at Daskalakis Athletic Center.
