Elon University softball splits doubleheader against UNC Wilmington

The Elon University softball team split a doubleheader against the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 6-1 and losing game two 2-1 at Hunt Softball Park. The team also hosted its annual alumni weekend with team alumni taking the field in their former position for the National Anthem.

Elon University lacrosse defeated by Hofstra University

In a battle for its first conference win of 2023, the Elon University lacrosse team fell short to Hofstra University, 17-12. A back-and-forth first quarter eventually became a Hofstra lead which the Pride held for the remainder of the afternoon. The Pride entered Rudd Field with a six-game losing streak, snapping it with a solid offensive performance.

Vice President of Strategic Initiatives to leave Elon University after two decades

Jeff Stein, vice president of strategic initiatives, is leaving Elon University to become president of Mary Baldwin University in Virginia. In the last two years, former Dean of the School of Communications Rochelle Ford, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Aswani Volety and Dean of the School of Health Sciences Rebecca Neiduski left Elon to become presidents of other universities. He will succeed Pamela Fox, current Mary Baldwin president, as the first man to hold the position in almost five decades. He will officially begin his new position on July 1.

Actress, activist imparts wisdom ahead of speech at Elon University

Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress Ashley Judd is at Elon University today and will deliver the Spring Convocation address at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym as part of the 2022-23 speaker series. Judd, an activist and humanitarian, is a champion for women’s rights and public health issues. She was one of the most vocal figures of the #MeToo movement and named TIME’s 2017 “Person of the Year.”

Shannon Bream of FOX News gives lecture at Elon University School of Law

Shannon Bream, chief legal correspondent for FOX News, spoke at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro Wednesday evening about social media, being a woman in journalism and her books. Bream was welcomed and introduced by Elon Law Leadership Fellow Courtney Latourrette and Interim Dean and professor of law Alan D. Woodlief, Jr. The conversation held on stage with Bream was moderated by Professor Catherine Dunham.

Elon University football team works with Be The Match

This is the fifth annual drive Elon’s football team has helped with. Elon community members were also able to sign up via a QR-code to become a donor. Once signed up, participants swabbed their cheeks and submitted the samples. If a participant is selected as a match, they will receive further instructions on what to do next.

She met with students and alumni to provide her insight on being both a journalist and an attorney. OPINION: The war for insulin affordability isn't over yet

I was distributing newspapers on the morning of March 1, 2023, when my earbuds suddenly paused my Taylor Swift playlist to bombard me with a breaking news alert: Eli Lilly, one of the biggest insulin producers in the world, had decided to cap their out-of-pocket prices at $35 a month. I was standing in the middle of Global Commons, holding dozens of papers, when I broke down in tears at the sight of my phone. At that moment, an NBC news alert changed the trajectory of my life and informed me I could now afford to pursue my dreams.

Elon University men’s tennis routs UNC Greensboro on Senior Day

The stands were packed to the brim at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Tuesday night as three seniors — Nicholas Condos, Nicholas Campbell and Luke Queiroz — were honored. The Elon University men’s tennis team displayed a dominant performance en route to a 6-1 Senior Day victory over the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans.
